The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has contracted a team of industry experts to create a State Aquaculture Plan.

The plan will be presented to the Minnesota State Legislature in February of 2025 and will outline opportunities, needs, and challenges for a vibrant aquaculture industry in Minnesota.

Minnesota’s rich sport fishing culture and unparalleled freshwater access have led to the development of a robust aquaculture industry for rearing bait fish and stocking fish.

The MN Dept. of Agriculture has recognized the need for a State Aquaculture Plan as the industry expands from bait and stocking to other sectors like aquaponics and raising fish for food. The Plan will provide an in-depth exploration of the state's aquaculture industry to highlight both opportunities and challenges for future growth.
